Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist, director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art. Warhol is known for his silkscreen paintings of Campbell's soup cans and Marilyn Monroe, among others, which became iconic symbols of American pop culture. His New York studio, The Factory, became a famous gathering place for intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, and bohemian street people.
